Stefan Lok

He and his brother run a family business closely tied to their home area. From a young age they were taken by their father and grandfather to the reed lands (kragge) and the waters to learn the intricacies of the reed- and fishing trade. He witnessed the ecological developments of the area and consequences of this on the nature of his work over the years. His work and his catch drastically altered; where he used to catch an abundance of eel, now his biggest catch is the invasive American crayfish.

Motivated by this awareness, Stefan considers himself as a custodian of the waters he fishes, closely collaborates with national water management and actively monitors the fish populations. Next to that, he aids glass eels to bypass the locks and dams and enter the inner waters of the area, supporting the continuation of the species.
